A hillwalker, who had been reported missing in the Glendoe area yesterday afternoon, has this morning been traced “safe and well” by search teams.

The male climber, who had been on a venture by himself, was reported overdue yesterday at 2pm.

The man had been climbing in the Glendoe area near to Fort Augustus but became lost. This morning the climber was able to make contact with the search teams to relay information back about his location.

A coastguard spokeswoman said: “We received a call last night around 9.45pm and we diverted our search and rescue helicopter, Rescue 951, from Inverness who had been out on training.

“Rescue 951 provided support to the Lochaber and Cairngorm mountain rescue teams, however, were not able to search for long as the weather and light were poor.

“We resumed the search today at 5.20am, again with Lochaber and Cairngorm mountain rescue teams.

“Rescue 951 located the missing climber at 9.42am, who was healthy and safe and well – despite being a little cold.

“No ambulance was required, nor was transfer to the hospital, so we handed him into the care of the mountain rescue teams.

“The climber was well prepared and had the right equipment which aided him in this situation.”
