One seriously injured following early morning crash on A87 near Inverinate

One person has been left seriously injured after an early morning crash on the A87 Invergarry to Uig road.

The incident, which occurred around 12.40am, took place near Inverinate and involved only one vehicle.

Two casualties were injured in the incident with one said to have been seriously injured.

The seriously injured occupant was taken by the Scottish Ambulance Service to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow.

As a result of the crash, the vital route to the islands was closed for nearly nine hours.

A police spokesman said: “We attended to reports of a one vehicle road traffic collision after receiving a call at 12.40am.

“Two casualties were involved with one seriously injured.

“The road was closed to allow emergency services to attend to the scene, with a diversion route set up for waiting motorists.

“The seriously injured casualty was taken by the ambulance service to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow by air ambulance.

“The route was fully reopened to the public around 9.15am.”

Two fire crews from nearby Kyle of Lochalsh and Broadford on Skye also were in attendance.

A fire service spokeswoman said: “We received a call at 12.46am to attend to the incident.

“No equipment was in use as the casualties were out of the vehicle by the time our crews arrived.

“Our firefighters assisted police at the scene and a stop message was received at 1.51am.”
