An art gallery will be highlighting a Highland-based artist’s link to Hollywood as part of its September programme.

Resipole Studios and Fine Art Gallery, at Acharacle is showing an exhibition of the works of Highland-based TV and film maker Norrie Maclaren who worked on classic films such as The Shining as well as photographing some of the most fashionable women and men on the planet.

The show, The Conversation Around Luck, is a walk through the most influential moments and images in the life of Mr Maclaren who worked in the photographic and film industries.

Through photographic images, multi-media displays and props, the exhibition will explore his career to date, from seeking opportunities in the creative world, to his work as an assistant to director Stanley Kubrick on Barry Lyndon and The Shining, to his fashion photography, magazine publishing, and producing cutting edge television programs for Channel 4.

The exhibition will be supported by talks by the artist, to share his expertise and experience of the photographic and film industries.

Mr Maclaren was born in 1948 and lives in Ard Darrach, near Ardgour.  He describes himself as a “gifted generalist”, not someone to sit still for long, Norrie developed a number of film and television projects through his production company on the Ardnamurchan peninsula.

The sow is one of a number of events at the gallery this month – there will also be a ceramics exhibition, Ways of Being, which features six of the UK’s leading female ceramicists: Wendy Lawrence, Helen Michie, Patricia Shone, Tricia Thom, Michelle Young-Hares and Maggie Zerafa.

The show was curated by the locally-based artist, Helen Michie, and explores the unique contribution of each artist, their way of working, and the creative journeys taken to arrive at the body of work on display.

In its red gallery, there is a solo show of paintings inspired by Samurai warriors and saints by Stephen French, an artist who splits his time between Kilchoan and Dundee.

Elsewhere in the gallery, its Autumn show will present new works from their regular roster of artists, including Catalan artist Anna Bussot, landscapes by Jonathan Mitchell, still life painting by Gavin Young, and printmaking by Sheila Rodger.
