Education bosses have launched an inquiry after a pupil with additional support needs was reported missing from an Inverness school.
The incident happened at about 10.30am yesterday. The school informed the police.
Officers and a dog unit were deployed to the area to assist in efforts to find the missing pupil.
It is understood the pupil was only missing for a short period of time before being found. They returned to the school, where they were understood to be safe and well.
As a result, Highland Council has said that it is investigating the incident.
A spokesman said: “We worked closely with our partners at Police Scotland to ensure the safe return of the pupil.
“Inquiries are ongoing into the circumstances.”
A police spokeswoman confirmed that officers were involved in the mid-morning city incident.
She said: “We attended after receiving concern for a missing person.
“The person in connection was traced and our action concluded.”
