Preparations underway to deliver new £5million water treatment works in Tomatin

The finishing touches to a £5million project, which will deliver a new water treatment works in Tomatin, are being applied at the site next to the River Findhorn.

The new facility, which has already been assembled and pre-commissioned by Ross-shire Engineering (RSE), will make the 27-mile journey down the A9 from its specialist facility in Muir of Ord in advance of the project’s completion.

The units will be transported by convoy over a number of days from March 16 and the work has been timed to avoid the busiest times on the transport network.

Project manager Callum Wardrop said the new amenities will “ensure residents in Tomatin continue to receive clear, fresh drinking water well into the future.”

He added: “While other HGV construction traffic has been accessing the site from the south, the size of these four units means they will need to turn off the A9 north of Tomatin and travel through the village.

“The deliveries have been carefully planned by RSE and their specialised haulier, in consultation with the police, to ensure they can take place safely – and the final leg of their journey will be made at low speed.”

He warned there might be short delays on the route and thanked motorists in advance for their patience.

The full project, on behalf of Scottish Water by their alliance partner ESD and RSE, is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
