An update on NHS Highland’s culture programme is among the items on the agenda of this Tuesday’s board meeting.

The culture programme, established in the wake of the findings of the QC-led independent inquiry into bullying allegations within the health authority, will be discussed as executives and non-executives from right across the Highlands and Argyll and Bute gather on video call.

Restrictions under the coronavirus pandemic have forced the alteration the usual format of the meeting.

Dr Boyd Peters, NHS Highland’s medical director, will update his fellow board members on how the health board is tackling the coronavirus outbreak, with a report expected from David Garden, the board’s Director of Finance.

A report on the culture programme will be delivered by Fiona Hogg, Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development.

Within her report, Ms Hogg has said the culture programme will “ensure our workforce are engaged, motivated, clear on their roles and priorities and working to our values” with long term changes hoped to ease financial constrictions through “reduction in sickness absence, disciplinary and grievance case timelines”.

Ms Hogg has stated within her report that she hopes the programme will improve “recruitment and retention”.

Despite the challenging circumstances the health board is dealing with, Ms Hogg has confirmed the programme will continue during the Covid-19 outbreak, however “activities will be reprioritised and timelines adjusted as necessary”.

The meeting, which will be hosted at NHS Highland’s headquarters in Assynt House, Inverness, takes place tomorrow.
