Lorry drivers drive past Raigmore Hospitail in Inverness to show their support for the NHS staff and other key workers.

Dozens of lorries lined the streets surrounding Raigmore Hospital in Inverness tonight as a way of saluting heroic health workers for their efforts.

The drive-by, organised by Steven Barclay of Seafield Transport, began near to the ambulance service’s base at King Duncan House before departing towards the main entrance of the north’s flagship hospital.

One participant, Eric Taylor, said he was taking part to pay tribute to all key workers of the NHS, care sector and other professions.

Mr Taylor said: “My mother works for the NHS, albeit at Caithness General Hospital in Wick. She is a domestic and I know she is way up there, but it is all about showing solidarity with all key workers.

“I am still working, we deal in waste management and transport, and I am classed as a key worker. However, we are not on the front line in the same way as the NHS.

“We just want to show our appreciation for staff in the NHS, and in care homes, who we consider to be on the same par.

“The effort has been absolutely heroic from all on the frontline so it is a privilege to be able to do this.”
