A 71-year-old drunk driver who crashed into a lorry and a car just before Christmas was banned from driving for a year yesterday.
Julian Tinney, from Kiltarlity, pleaded guilty by letter to dangerous driving and driving with excess alcohol in his blood on December 19.
He was over three times the legal limit of 50mgs of alcohol – a test confirming a reading of 162mgs – on the A87 east of the Cluanie Inn.
The court heard Tinney repeatedly veered on to the opposite carriageway, collided with the rear of a lorry before losing control of his vehicle.
It then hit another car being driven by a woman who was slightly injured.
Fiscal depute Michelle Molley said: “Police have spoken to his family who said that he has not driven since the incident and does not intend to.”
Sheriff Gary Aitken ordered Tinney to resit the extended driving test at the end of his ban and fined him £840.
