A man is in serious condition in hospital following a one vehicle crash on the A9 this afternoon.
He was cut free from his car, a Honda Integra, after it left the southbound carriageway near Inshes, Inverness.
The sole occupant of the vehicle, he was conveyed by ambulance to Raigmore Hospital where his condition has been described as serious.
The A9 southbound between Raigmore Interchange and Inshes flyover remains closed as police carry out their inquiries.
Fire crews helped to free the man using hydraulic cutting equipment before leaving him in the care of the ambulance service.
A police spokeswoman said: “Around 4.05 pm on Monday police and emergency services were called to a single vehicle road crash on the southbound carriageway of the A9 at Inshes, Inverness.
“Inquiries into the crash are continuing and the A9 southbound is shut between Raigmore Interchange and Inshes flyover.
“The road remains closed to allow officers to carry out their inquiries.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue service spokeswoman confirmed they had three appliances in attendance and had used cutting equipment to free a person.
