Essential repairs will soon begin to preserve the safety of the A95 Spey Bridge.

Bear Scotland plan to get underway on the crossing, near Grantown on Spey, at the beginning of September.

The works involve small repairs to defective areas of reinforced concrete which were identified during an in-depth investigation undertaken in 2018.

The repairs on the bridge – built in 1931 and Grade B-listed – are expected to take up to 10 weeks.

Bear Scotland say the project will help ensure the bridge continues to operate safely for road users for years to come.

A spokeswoman said: “We are preparing to carry out essential repairs on the historic A95 Spey Bridge near Grantown-on-Spey in the early autumn.

“The work, anticipated to take up to ten weeks to complete, will involve repairs to the reinforced concrete sections of the bridge, which are showing signs of deterioration.

“We’re also planning on adding a protective coating to the bridge’s arches and abutments to ensure they are protected for years to come.

“Preparations for the project are currently ongoing and teams are working to create a system to provide a safe working area for the workforce while minimising network disruption to road users as much as possible.”

A system to manage the traffic while the work takes place is being developed by Bear Scotland.
