Overnight closures will be imposed on Banavie Swing Bridge on the A830 and the A82 Laggan Swing Bridge in the coming weeks to facilitate a £260,000 programme of improvements.

A stretch of the A9 Inverness to Perth trunk route will close for two nights at the Raigmore Interchange in the Highland Capital.

The restrictions, being put in place to protect workers, will begin tomorrow with a closure in place from 8pm to 6am.

A second closure will also be implemented on Friday evening into Saturday covering the same timeframe.

The maintenance work will focus on the overbridges on the busy route, which will entail surfacing improvements on the bridge deck to create safer and smoother journeys for motorists.

The surfacing is taking place ahead of further maintenance work programmed next month, involving the replacement of bridge joints.

A signed diversion will be in place from the Raigmore Interchange as the A9 will be closed in both directions during the closure periods.

The dual carriageway will remain open during daytime to keep disruption to a minimum.

Eddie Ross, Bear Scotland’s north west representative, said: “The overnight road closure is essential for ensuring the safety of our workforce as well as motorists.

“We’ve taken steps to help minimise disruption to motorists as much as possible by carrying out the project overnight and avoiding weekend working.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible and we thank road users for their patience in advance while we carry out these improvements.”
