Oban town centre is about to benefit from better public internet access, a waste disposal point for passing motorhomes, new signage and a facelift for shopfronts as part of a government scheme.
Also in line to share Argyll and Bute Council’s £444,000 grant are Tobermory, Lochgilphead, Ardrishaig and Tarbert, among other places.
The Scottish Government is distributing the money as part of it economic recovery package in the wake of the pandemic.
Members will be asked to approve a list of projects at a full meeting of Argyll and Bute Council today.
In Oban £10,000 is being allocated for eight double-sided signs at various locations including the entrance to the North Pier pontoons and at the Gateway to the Isles.
At McCaigs Tower, £7,000 will go towards enhancing the environment and a further £10,000 is for a motorhome waste disposal point in the town centre.
Improved wifi equipment will cost £15,000 while seven or more shopfronts can share a pot of £21,000 for small scale improvements.
In Tobermory on Mull a harbour floodgate project worth £315,000 will receive £20,000 and around seven shopfronts can share a £28,000 improvement grant.
More than 10 shopfronts in Lochgilphead and Ardrishaig will share £33,500.
In the report to the council, senior development officer Lorna Pearce said: “The intention of the fund is to support employment across Scotland by way of helping to stimulate local construction activity within town centres.
“Potential capital projects have been identified on the basis that they meet the criteria.”
