One person was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness last night with serious injuries after a car and tractor collided.
It happened on the A99 at Occumster, north of Lybster, just after 7.30pm, with two other casualties taken to Caithness General Hospital in Wick.
All three casualties had been trapped in the car
and were freed by firefighters using cutting equipment.
Crews had been deployed from Dunbeath and Lybster fire stations, as well as an enhanced appliance mobilised from Wick.
Police controlled traffic, but did not have to close the road as the damaged vehicle ended up off the road.
Firefighters and police officers remained at the scene for several hours as investigations into the accident were carried out.
