Tom Coles and his twin sister Sophie are as close as can be.

But when the 21-year-olds were deciding what they wanted to do with their lives, they could not have chosen more different careers.

Mr Coles graduated yesterday with a first class degree in law, while his twin sister has just finished an HND in make-up artistry in Edinburgh.

The pair, who are from the picturesque village of Dornie on the main tourist route to the Isle of Skye, said they were thrilled to be together on his special day.

“I picked to go to Aberdeen University as it’s the best place to study law in Scotland,” he said.

“I’ve enjoyed every minute of it – even the studying – and I’ve made some really good friends.”

His sister said: “We are extremely close, and have tried to visit each other as much as we can while we’ve been studying.

“We’re a long way from home, and it’s been great that we’ve had each other a bit closer by.”

Mr Coles’ mother and father, Wendy and Peter, and brother Adam were also in the audience to see him capped by the Duchess yesterday.

“We had heard rumours that she might be here, but it wasn’t until today that we knew for sure,” he said.

“It’s something special to be able to say that you were given a degree by royalty.”

His mother said a double celebration was definitely on the cards.

“We are so, so proud,” she said.
