Oban lifeboat rescues diver

A diver had to be rescued by lifeboat after his decompression stopped while he was surfacing from a dive in Argyll today.

A Stornoway Coastguard spokeswoman said they received a call for assistance from a dive boat near Insh Island, south of Oban, at around 12.30pm.

Oban Lifeboat was launched and the man was taken to Oban harbour, where the lifeboat crew was assisted by members of the local Coastguard rescue team.

He was then taken to the decompression chamber at Dunstaffnage Marine Laboratory, near Oban, by road ambulance.

The spokeswoman said: “His decompression stopped on his way up from his dive.

“He appeared to be fine. He had no symptoms, so it was more of a precautionary measure to get him there and get him checked.”
