The rescue of a diver from a dive boat in Argyll today marked the 2,000th call-out for Oban Lifeboat.
The crew was asked to pick up the diver from the boat, called Sound Diver, near Insh Island, south of Oban, at around 12.30pm.
A spokesman for the lifeboat crew said: “The diver had surfaced from a great depth without the usual ‘stops’ and may have been suffering from decompression sickness.”
He added: “This shout was number 2,000 in the history of Oban Lifeboat, which was founded in 1972.”
It initially operated with an 18ft MacLachlan Inshore lifeboat, followed by a 42ft Watson class and then a 33ft Brede class, followed by the present boat, a 46ft Trent Class lifeboat.
In those 42 years, Oban Lifeboats has covered a total of 36,700 miles on service and consumed 363,000 litres of diesel oil.
