A video showing a gravity-defying thrill ride along the Cuillin ridge on Skye has become an online hit.

A short film of Skye born stunt cyclist Danny MacAskill’s thrilling ride through over the mountain range has been viewed more than five million times since it was released last Thursday.

The seven-and-a-half minute clip shows MacAskill pulling tricks on top of the treacherous mountain ridge.

It even features a trip to the infamous Inaccessible Pinnacle at the summit of Sgurr Dearg.

The clip opens with MacAskill rowing across Loch Scavaig on the island before swapping boat for bike and taking on the Cuillins.

The 28-year-old’s parents feared that he might kill himself with the 7.5mile ride, but the fearless cyclist took it all in his stride.

Mr MacAskill, originally from Dunvegan, said: “Although I get to travel the world now, Skye’s very much my home.

“You maybe don’t appreciate it when you live here but it’s quite a magical place.”

The film was put together by Glasgow based Cut Media using drones and a camera attached to MacAskill’s helmet.

The footage shows the cyclist pulling off stomach churning climbs up sheer cliff faces and a dramatic somersault over a barbed wire fence.

Mr MacAskill found international fame through films of his spectacular and often dangerous cycle stunts posted online.

Father Peter said: “I was very apprehensive that he would seriously hurt or even kill himself.

“Danny didn’t go into details of what he did, to stop us worrying.”
