Man, 45, dressed up as woman and sent Facebook photo to teenage girl

A 45-year-old north man who dressed up as a woman and sent a photo of himself to a 14-year-old girl has been told not to approach children.

William Macleod was sentenced at Wick Sheriff Court yesterday after he previously admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.

The girl was upset when she received the unwelcome photos on her Facebook page, the court was told at an earlier hearing.

The message was reported to police and Macleod was charged.

His bizarre message to a teenager included two photos of himself wearing woman’s clothing and make-up.

The girl was puzzled and replied to the post, asking why he had sent it to her.

Macleod was said to have answered: “Do you want to see more?”, meaning more photographs.

At the court hearing last month, Macleod was said to have consumed 10 tins of lager when he posted the pictures to the girl, who he did not know.

However, the court was told there was no sexual element.

Macleod, of 1 Thorfinn Place, Thurso, described himself as having been “a bit drunk” at the time, said David Barclay, prosecuting. He added: “He told the police he was horrified when he discovered the girl was only 14 as he thought she looked 18 or 19 on her Facebook page.

“He regarded the matter as a social, fun and friendly thing, rather than anything sinister.”

During a hearing yesterday, Macleod was told not to approach anyone under 16, other than family members.

He will also be under the supervision of the social work department for eight months.

Macleod was not available for comment yesterday.
