High winds gusting at more than 50mph are causing chaos for ferry passengers in the north this morning.

Many services are subject to cancellations and others are on amber alert of possible disruption or cancellation.

All sailings of the MV Isle of Lewis between Stornoway and Ullapool, the Mallaig to Small Isles and the Tarbert to Lochranza services have been cancelled due to adverse weather. There will be no sailings on these routes today.

And sailings between Oban and Coll and Tiree and Oban have been cancelled due to high winds.

The Tayinloan to Gigha, Fionnphort to Iona, Kennacraig to Islay and Tobermory to Kilchoan services are currently suspended, with reviews being held at midday.

Sailings between Barra and Eriskay have been cancelled for this morning. A review of this afternoon’s sailings is to be held at 2pm.

The Berneray to Leverburgh service has also been cancelled due to adverse weather, with a review taking place at 1pm.

Other services currently subject to cancellation include Sconser to Raasay.

The morning sailings between Mallaig and Armadale were cancelled, with ferry operator CalMac warning of further disruption and cancellations at short notice for the rest of today.

And the Uig – Lochmaddy – Tarbert service is subject to delays.

Calmac apologised for any inconvenience caused by the cancellations and disruption to services.
