The new event could be held at the former Rockness site
Fears are growing for the future of a major north music festival after it was reported that RockNess will not be returning for a second consecutive year.
The festival was cancelled in 2014 after organisers blamed a clash with the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the football World Cup in Brazil.
And now it is said that the festival will not return to Dores again this year either.
It was last held on the banks of Loch Ness in June 2013.
When the 2014 festival was called off, the organisers, global entertainment company AEG, pledged to make the event bigger and better than ever in 2015.
They took over the running of the event in 2008, after the festival was started in 2006 by DJ Fatboy Slim.
At its height, RockNess attracted as many as 30,000 revellers over its three days to Clune Farm in Dores, making it the biggest music festival in the north.
It has been reported that the organisers have called off the festival because they have been struggling to attract the numbers needed to help it compete financially against other major events.
