Popular ceilidh band Skerryvore is celebrating its 10th birthday, and thousands are going to turn up for the party.
Skerryvore: Decade will take place at Mossfield Stadium on May 30 and the 3,000 tickets originally put on sale were snapped up within an hour.
But now the stadium and local authorities have given the green light to put another 3,000 tickets on offer after music fans from across Scotland, USA, Norway and England clamoured to join the party.
The extra tickets will go on sale at 4pm on Sunday from www.skerryvoredecade.com
Daniel Gillespie, founding member and accordion player, from the isle of Tiree, said: “We are blown away by the response from fans. It’s going to be a brilliant event, a bit of a mini festival, and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate 10 year’s as a band.”
Skerryvore: Decade will see the band collaborate with the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, Sharon Shannon, Scott Wood band, Skipinnish and many more still to be announced.
The event is being organised in association with Bid4Oban with CalMac as an additional key sponsor.
Graeme Bass, chairman of business improvement group BID4Oban Limited, said: “This is a great example of how working together with committed partners can produce an event that will hugely benefit Oban and our business community.”
Forming on the Argyll island of Tiree in 2005, the raw but contemporary band has expanded in both size and sound over the past decade, creating a unique fusion of traditional music and songs with the sounds of rock, pop and funk.
Having performed in more than 25 countries over the past 10 years, 2015 is set to take the septet to new heights with a year of international festivals and touring.
Band members include: Daniel Gillespie and Martin Gillespie, both from Tiree, Alec Dalglish of Livingston, Craig Espie, Ayr, Fraser West from Livingston, Alan Scobie, Stewarton in Ayrshire, and Jodie Bremaneson, from Methlick, Aberdeenshire.
