A webchat about Argyll and Bute Council’s controversial program of cuts is being held on Monday.

The council is looking to save £9million in each of the next two financial years and proposals include doing away with Christmas lights and high school librarians.

Other money saving options include reducing bin collections and increasing burial costs.

With three weeks to go before the consultation on service choices ends, Council Leader Dick Walsh is holding a web chat for anyone who has not yet responded and or not yet asked questions they may have.

He will be available to answer questions on Monday from 6pm to 7pm via the council’s website – www.argyll-bute.gov.uk

Councillor Walsh said: “We’ve already had a good response to the consultation online, with nearly 800 people giving their views on savings options and ideas for how the council might transform how it works in future. We would like to hear from as many people as possible.

“The council must make significant changes in order to balance our budget and deliver services with drastically reduced funding. There are no easy choices.

”If you have questions to ask, information will be on the website on how to raise them from Monday. If you cannot participate in the web chat but would like to ask a question please contact us at planningourfuture@argyll-bute.gov.uk or by calling 01546 604171.”

Please note that this webchat had originally been planned for Wednesday. Because of a re-scheduled national meeting of council leaders, the webchat has been moved to Monday so that it can still go ahead.
