A body has been found by police searching for a vulnerable Ross-shire man who was reported missing.

The man was found behind Tain’s Royal Hotel at about midday yesterday by officers looking for 66-year-old Roderick McClymont.

Known as “Roddy” and from Invergordon, Mr McClymont had last been seen in the area near the hotel at 11.50pm on Saturday.

He was reported missing on Tuesday, prompting police to issue an appeal for information and begin searching the area.

A medical condition meant that the force had become increasingly “anxious” about his wellbeing by yesterday morning.

Senior officers were briefing the media about the search at about midday when it emerged that a body had been found.

Several police officers were standing in front of three large yellow wheeled bins in the car park adjacent to the Tain Royal Hotel yesterday afternoon.

The identity of the man is still to be confirmed but Mr McClymont’s family have been informed of the discovery.

The 66-year-old lived at Ardross Place in Invergordon and also had family members living in the town.

Tributes were paid to him on social media last night.

One man described him as a “proper gent and character”, while a woman from Alness said he was a “nice, polite man”, and an Inverness woman said he was a “very pleasant man to chat to”.

Another woman posted: “So sad. Thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.”

A police spokesman said: “On Tuesday, February 9, following a report of a missing person from the Invergordon area, Police Scotland conducted a search for Roderick McClymont who had last been seen in the Tain area on Saturday night.

“At around midday today, following ongoing searches, police can confirm that sadly the body of a man has been discovered in the Tain area.

“The man’s identity has yet to be officially confirmed but the family of Mr McClymont have been informed of the discovery.”
