Theft of Highland restaurant signs causes loss of trade

A Lochaber business is losing custom after a thief stole its tourism signs from alongside the A82 Fort William to Glasgow road at the height of the holiday season.

John Grieve, owner of Loch Leven Seafood, said they had no idea why the three brown signs pointing to “Seafood restaurant and shop” had been removed.

But he said they had definitely noticed a reduction in the number of people coming to their business since they disappeared from the A82 junction with the B863 Kinlochleven road at North Ballachulish sometime last week.

Mr Grieve yesterday said: “It’s causing us a lot of problems. People have difficulty finding us anyway because we are off the beaten track and we’ve definitely noticed a dip in trade over the last few days.

“I guess it’s either a prank or somebody trying to get at us, but we can’t imagine who would want to harm our business in this way.”

The Ice Factor signs on the same posts are still in place.

Mr Grieve said he had reported the matter to the police and he appealed for whoever had taken the signs to return them to the restaurant or let them know where they were so they could collect them.

A police spokeswoman said the signs were removed from two separate locations between Monday July 18 and Thursday July 21.

She said: “The first was from the A82 at the north side of the junction with the B863.

“The other two were back to back directly opposite the junction with the B863.”

Anyone with any information about this incident can contact police on 101.
