Nominations are being sought for eight community councils in the Highlands that have failed to materialise since routine elections last November.
The councils are voluntary organisations that act as a voice a local area.
They focus on a wide range of issues including planning applications, roads and local services.
Those seeking new members are Ardgour; Contin; Glendale; Holm; Laggan; Lochbroom; Mallaig, and Stromeferry and Achmore.
If newcomers do not step forward the councils will be formally dissolved by Highland Council.
Elsewhere, the resignation of some community councillors brought four others to below half-membership, so there will also be interim elections for those – Archaracle; Fort William; Portree and Braes, and Staffin.
Elections will take place on September 16.
Anyone interested in standing must be on the electoral register within the respective community council area or, if aged 16 or 17 years old, have completed a voter registration application.
Highland Council chief executive Steve Barron said: “Community councils work to make positive changes in their local communities.
“Some have worked to improve patient transport, dental services and care services as well as looking at ways to improve their environment for the good of the community and visitors to the area.
“It’s a great way to improve the area in which you live, so I would really encourage anyone interested to consider this opportunity.”
