Here are four stories you may have missed from Inverness Sheriff Court this week.
1) Woman threw can of juice at police officer and hit him in the face
A 45-year-old Inverness woman who assaulted two police officers was fined £500 yesterday.
Jessie Sutherland, of New Craigs Hospital, admitted throwing a can of juice at one officer and striking him on the face at Lomond Way on January 1, 2015.
She also pleaded guilty to attempting to kick another officer on the same date.
She had been sentenced to a community payback order but social workers recommended that it be revoked and an alternative sentence imposed.
Sheriff David Sutherland decided to levy a fine but told Sutherland if she failed to pay one £10 weeky instalment, she would be jailed.
2) Woman jailed after stealing perfume so she could buy food
A 26-year-old Inverness woman who claimed she stole £137 worth of perfume to buy food for herself was jailed for 10 weeks yesterday.
Jacqueline Rabbeth of Juniper Gardens, admitted the theft of two bottles of fragrance from Debenhams on August 31, last year.
Defence solicitor Rory Gowans said: “She had no income and stole to feed herself.”
3) Highland man was abusive and threatening in A&E
A Carrbridge man who was abusive and threatening in the accident and emergency department of Raigmore Hospital in Inverness had sentence deferred until April 20.
Steven McLaughlin of Reed Court admitted the offence which occurred on March 14.
Sheriff David Sutherland called for a background report and remanded McLaughlin until then.
4) Inverness man to remain in jail after damaging van bonnet
A 31 year old Inverness man who is currently serving a two year jail sentence was jailed for three months yesterday.
But Sheriff David Sutherland’s decision won’t affect Alexander Stewart’s earliest release date in August because it will be served alongside the current punishment,
Stewart of Balloan Road admitted a charge of maliciously damaging the bonnet of a van in Maclennan Crescent on July 28.
Defence solicitor Clare Russell said the offence for which her client was jailed was committed just days afterwards and they were both connected.
She added: “He had just found out his partner had suffered a miscarriage and emotions were high.”
