Parking advice has been issued as Inverness prepares to be swamped by visitors for a trio of events in the city this weekend.

More than 20,000 people are expected to flock towards the Bught Park area over the weekend to take in the Highland Games, a Bryan Adams concert on Sunday and the Inverness Gala.

Fears have already been expressed that the influx of people could cause parking problems in the city over the weekend.

Yesterday, bosses at the Eastgate shopping centre warned people not to use the mall’s original car park to attend the events, as it closes at 7pm and does not re-open until 8am.

However, they said the Falcon Car Park, accessible from Milburn Road by taking a right hand turn after Morrisons supermarket, will be open until midnight, and has 700 spaces.

Highland Council has also recommended people use the two car parks at Rose Street, another at Strothers Lane, and the local authority’s own 350-space car park at its headquarters.

Disabled drivers and local residents will be prioritised for the events, with able-bodied drivers to be encouraged to park in the city centre and walk to the Bught alongside the River Ness.

The gates for the Highland Games will open on Saturday at 10.30am and at midday the City of Inverness and Inverness Royal British Legion pipe bands will march onto the field to herald the arrival of games chieftain, Provost Helen Carmichael.
