Story 1
A 21 year old Inverness man who punched a police constable on the face was jailed for five months yesterday.
Cameron Ross of Rosehaugh Road admitted breaching his bail curfew and assaulting the officer in Lauder’s Bar on December 28 last year.
Inverness Sheriff Court was told that police had gone to the premises about 11.15pm after a tip-off that Ross was in breach of the court order not to be out at that time of night.
When the two officers arrested him, he punched one of them. He then had to be put in handcuffs and leg restraints.
Story 2
A fabricator kept his driving licence and his job after a Sheriff decided against banning the 21 year old from the road.
Calum Cockman of Woodside Avenue, Grantown on Spey appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday and admitted driving carelessly at 106mph in a 60 mph zone near Dulnain Bridge on July 3 last year.
Sheriff Margaret Neilson heard he earned £2,000 a month but his employment was 35 miles from his home.
The court was also told that Cockman had six penalty points on his licence for an insurance offence.
The Sheriff fined him £675 and imposed five penalty points, meaning any road traffic offence would result in an automatic six month ban.
She said: “I am doing this to allow you to keep your job.”
Story 3
A 39 year old Dingwall man who walked out of the Inverness Asda store with a large screen TV was ordered to carry out 160 hours of unpaid community work.
Barry McGill of Macrae Crescent previously admitted at Inverness Sheriff Court, a charge of theft by shoplifting.
The offence took place on September 25 last year and sentence had been deferred for a background report.
Story 4
A 49 year old Inverness man who was drinking heavily after a bereavement made abusive phone calls to his partner from an Inverness hotel.
But Inverness Sheriff Court was told that Graham Kerr’s partner, Debra Murchison, was more concerned about his welfare than his drunken threats on January 9.
She phoned the police and Macdonald, of Greenwood Place, Milton of Leys was arrested.
Macdonald was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid community work, placed under supervision and instructed to have alcohol treatment.
