Friends and the girlfriend of a young Inverness man killed in a weekend car crash have paid tribute to the “one in a million” victim.

Kyle Robertson, 20, from Smithton, was killed when his car left the road at about 2pm on Sunday near Garve in Wester Ross.

All three emergency services and the air ambulance were scrambled to the scene – but Mr Robertson could not be saved.

Flowers have been placed near the crash site on the A835 and on Monday evening, Chinese lanterns were released by friends as a mark of respect.

Mr Robertson’s girlfriend, Teagan Cameron, wrote on social media: “Well Kyle, today we went to lay flowers and set off lanterns and fireworks just so you could light up our lives once more.

“It was such a hard day for us all but I had Liam by my side every step of the way just like you would have wanted! I love you forever and nobody can ever replace you.”

Sarah Cameron added: “Kyle Robertson was one in a million, he was like a son to us and will always be part of the family. We will all cherish the good fun times we had and the craic that we had with him.”

Another friend, Dugie Cameron, wrote: “A very sad loss to us all, our heart goes out to Teagan and all the family, and to Kyle’s family.”

Mr Robertson was the youngest of five children and was a former Culloden Academy pupil. He enjoyed ten pin bowling for which he won prizes.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward but are particularly interested in talking to one “key witness.”

Sergeant Chris Murray, of the road policing unit, said: “Our inquiries into this tragic incident are ongoing.

“We are also seeking a key witness to the collision who may have been driving a dark green van, I believe this individual may have some vital information that would assist the inquiry.”

“I would also like to ask anyone who has any information, or dash cam footage, who has not already spoken to us makes contact as soon as possible.”

The collision involved a red Seat Leon driven by Mr Robertson and a white Audi S3 about a mile east of Garve.

The road was closed until 11.30pm to allow for a collision investigation to be carried out at the scene.
