An Inverness bricklayer who was caught drunk driving three times in the past three years was jailed for six months yesterday.
Kevin Brady, of Oldtown Road, was also banned from driving for eight years at Inverness Sheriff Court by Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood.
The father-of-one admitted driving in the city’s Benula Road while almost four times the legal drink driving limit on March 16, 2017. He also pleaded guilty to a charge of careless driving.
The court was told he collided with a car in the street, causing £7,000 worth of damage.
On January 10, 2018, Brady, 27, was again caught driving in Tomatin Road with excess alcohol, having collided with a metal post and a parked car.
Defence lawyer Rory Gowans said his client had a drink problem which he was addressing.
“He was in a period of emotional turmoil after a relationship break-up and sought solace in alcohol. When he drinks he can’t stop.
“He recognises he has a problem and has taken steps to get help.”
Sheriff Fleetwood said: “What worries me is not his drinking, but his driving.”
He told Brady: “In each of the last three years, you have chosen to get behind the wheel of a car while impaired by alcohol.
“You are not getting sentenced for having an alcohol problem, but for putting people at risk.”
Brady’s car was also confiscated by the court.
