Last chance saloon for Inverness man

A 28-year-old Inverness man was given “a last chance” to complete a community payback order to help him get his life back on track.

But first, James Mackay of Balvonie Terrace, must serve a six month jail sentence imposed at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday for several offences.

Mackay appeared from custody in front of Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood before he faced Sheriff Margaret Neilson to admit a community payback order imposed in October, 2016.

Mackay had failed to complete it and the order – a punishment for punching and stamping on the head of an Inverness man in June, 2016 – was breached.

However after hearing from defence solicitor John MacColl, who assured her that Mackay wanted to finish it, the Sheriff decided to give Mackay one final chance.

But she added 30 hours to the outstanding 93 hours of unpaid community work.

It will re-commence when he is released from the custodial sentence imposed by Sheriff Fleetwood.

Mackay admitted stealing alcohol from Tesco in Eastfield Way on May 2.

He also pleaded guilty to behaving in an abusive and threatening manner in Burnett Road Police Station on January 24, 2015 and assaulting his girlfriend, Nicole Calder in Millburn Road by pushing her on to metal railings on December 30, 2016.

He also admitted a breach of a special bail condition not to communicate with Miss Calder.
