A Dingwall painter and decorator who dealt drugs to friends to pay off his own debt was jailed for 13 months yesterday.
Sentence had been deferred for a background report on 31-year-old father-of-four David Mitchell.
Inverness Sheriff Court was told that he had run up a £3,000 debt to his own supplier.
Yesterday, Mitchell, of Millbank Road, admitted being concerned in the supply of heroin between August and September, 2017.
The court heard that he was arrested after dropping off his kids at school and going to his former co-accused, John Mitchell’s home to smoke heroin.
David Mitchell had admitted a previous conviction for a similar offence for which he was jailed.
Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood told him: “You of all people must have been well aware what the likely outcome would be if you were caught commercial dealing in Class A drugs.”
Defence solicitor Hannah Sweeney asked the Sheriff not to impose a custodial sentence.
She said: “He has self engaged with the addiction services and has returned clean samples since August last year.”
