A teenager who was upset that his first serious relationship had ended then pestered his ex-girlfriend for several days afterwards, a court heard yesterday.

Liam Macdonald, 19, had believed his girlfriend, Iona Lewis, had been cheating on him, Inverness Sheriff Court was told.

Fiscal depute Alex Swain said Maconald had discovered messages from another man on her mobile phone.

Miss Swain said the teenager, of Craighill Terrace, Tain, then made over 100 calls, text messages and snapchat communications to Miss Lewis, 19, in one day in March.

She added that he repeatedly called her for several days before the police were finally called.

Defence solicitor Willie Young said: “This was his first serious relationship and he struggled to come to terms that it was at an end.

“He accepts his attempts to contact her were immature and upsetting for her but he simply wanted to reconcile.”

Macdonald admitted a charge of stalking Miss Lewis and was ordered to carry out 180 hours of unpaid community work.

He was also prohibited from contacting his ex-girlfriend by Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood for two years.
