A 28-year-old Inverness man appeared in private at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday on a charge of assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement and danger of life.
Daniel McCafferty made no plea, was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.
Earlier at the court, McCafferty was jailed for a total of seven months by Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood.
McCafferty, of Union Street, had admitted breaching a community payback order after pleading guilty in December to having a knife in the city centre.
Sheriff Margaret Neilson decided then to place him on 18 months of social work supervision and ordered him to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work as an alternative to a prison sentence.
However she fixed a review date of February 14 to monitor his compliance and warned him he would go to jail if he was not co-operating.
McCafferty appeared for sentence before Sheriff Fleetwood yesterday and was told that on December 21, ambulancemen called in police when they spotted a knife in McCafferty’s shoe after treating him for a city centre collapse on the same day he was released from prison.
Defence agent Willie Young said his client – a drug addict – had taken high strength diazepam on his release and didn’t know how the weapon got there.
McCafferty had also previously admitted stealing a quantity of clothing on August 14, 2018, from TK Maxx and meat from Marks and Spencer.
