Organisers plan to push ahead with this year’s Baxters Loch Ness Marathon

The event will now return on October 3, 2021.
The event will now return on October 3, 2021.

This year’s Baxters Loch Ness marathon could still go ahead on October 4 as planned, organisers have said.

Event and race director Malcolm Sutherland has contacted participants to reassure them that the organising team continues to work hard to ensure that the event, which includes the Festival of Running, will ‘continue to be an outstanding experience for everyone involved’.

He said the team is monitoring the situation regarding Covid-19 and the advice given by the UK and Scottish Governments, the World Health Organisation and other public bodies.

Should the event be cancelled as a result of Covid-19, the organisers will be offering runners the option of a deferral into the 2021 event taking place on 3 October 2021 or a refund of their entry fee.

Mr Sutherland urged participants to keep connected on social media.

He said: “We will keep runners updated on the situation and provide more details on options available, should anything change, as soon as we have more information.”

Meanwhile #RunLochNess ambassador and coach Tom Craggs has posted a video on the Loch Ness Marathon site with tips for how to maintain fitness and training at home.

He said: “This is a difficult period for everyone and of course runners are no different.

“In this period what is critical to remember is that health is always a precursor to performance.

“Look after yourself and those around you, and hard training and doing the things we love will return in time.”

The London Marathon has been rescheduled to take place on October 4.
