Thousands of well-wishers gave their backing to Inverness judo star Stephanie Inglis yesterday as she embarked on her toughest fight yet.

Former Motherwell FC owner Les Hutchison pledged £10,000 towards the Commonwealth Games silver medal winner’s medical bills after her motorbike crash in Vietnam.

He wrote: “To one young Scottish winner from a team of young Scottish Youth Cup winners (Motherwell FC). You can do it… Keep fighting!”

Scots badminton stars Kirsty Gilmour and Susan Egelstaff urged the public to back the campaign, with Ms Gilmour saying: “Please, please donate to help save Scottish judo player Stephanie Inglis.”

England and Chelsea footballer Gemma Davison also supported the fundraising drive, saying: “Urgent help needed for Stephanie Inglis….Please help if you can.”

Team GB judo player Carrie Thompson said: “This is going to be the hardest fight of your life Stephanie. Please help, donate as much as you can.”

X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent star Ian Royce wrote on social media: “Please, please help. It’s life or death.”

Paul Bush, chairman of Commonwealth Games Scotland, said: “We would like to send our best wishes to Stephanie, her family and friends at this challenging time as she fights to recover from this terrible accident.”

JudoScotland said the organisation was “obviously shocked and saddened”.

It added: “The thoughts and prayers of everyone at JudoScotland are with Steph and her family at this difficult time.”
