A woman who assaulted a woman she found in bed with her partner was fined £400 at Oban Sheriff Court yesterday.

Emma Denovan, 27, had let herself into a house at Kilmore Terrace, Dervaig, on the isle of Mull, in the early hours of October 30.

She pleaded guilty to seizing the young woman by the hair, pulling her from a bed and throwing her to the floor, to her injury.

Denovan, of Riverside Court, Tobermory, also admitted behaving in a threatening manner, shouting, swearing and throwing books.

Sheriff Ruth Anderson said: “This is all very unfortunate.”

She told Denovan: “I am not suggesting for a minute that your reaction was appropriate, but to a certain level it is understandable.”

Fiscal Eoin McGinty said she had been in a relationship for a number of years with the man, named in court only as Mr MacCrone.

He said: “The relationship had broken down before the incident. After a party the accused went to Mr MacCrone’s parents house and let herself in. It was about 2am.

“Her ex-partner was in bed with another woman.

“She pulled her out of the bed and threw her on to the floor.”

He said the woman, who was 17, suffered scratches on her face and bruising to her legs and arms.

Solicitor Callum Hiller said: “The relationship is ongoing.

“Last October they were on off but they were still, as far as Miss Denovan was concerned, together. They were giving each other a bit of space. They had been in each others company within 24 hours.

“She let herself into the property, this was the norm. She didn’t go there thinking he was with another woman.

“She discovered them in bed together and thereafter behaved in the manner described. She is very remorseful and very much regrets it.”
