A road crash casualty has been airlifted to hospital following a serious traffic collision in Lewis.
Emergency services attended the scene on the main road through Carloway on the west coast of the island this morning.
Stornoway Coastguard helicopter was believed to be already airborne on a training exercise and diverted to the location.
The aircraft flew a casualty to the Western Isles Hospital.
A spokeswoman for NHS Western Isles said: “The patient’s condition is serious.”
The main route through Doune and Kirivick is expected to be shut until late tonight for investigations.
Traffic is being diverted between Breasclete and Carloway via the single track moorland Pentland Road.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “The A858 on the Isle of Lewis is currently closed in both directions between Carloway Bridge and the Doune Braes hotel due to a road traffic collision.
“The road is expected to remain closed for some time.”
