Tiree Music Festival back on after campsite evacuated last night

The good times will continue at Tiree Music Festival despite the entire campsite being evacuated last night.

Festival goers were quickly rushed out of the island festival grounds after strong winds blew away tents at the campsite.

The displaced revellers were put up at the island’s airport, business centres, schools, churches and even in the homes of people in the island’s community overnight.

Doubts were raised last night if the sell-out festival would be cancelled, but now that the severe weather has moved on, organisers have announced that the event will continue as planned.

Festival director Daniel Gillespie said: “The weather has settled and we are ready to continue with day two of the celebrations, after we showed how strong the community spirit is on Tiree.

“Both Argos and Tesco have kindly donated tents from their Oban stores, and we’re ready to welcome revellers to enjoy the line up for the rest of the weekend, which includes The Fratellis and many more.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the tremendous people of Tiree who opened their doors to our visitors, showing them the very best of Hebridean hospitality.”

All 1,700 tickets to this year’s event sold out within five hours of going on sale.

Famed for its laid back atmosphere, Tiree Music Festival attracts a diverse audience and is known as one of the most family-friendly in the UK.
