A 48-year-old teaching assistant from Skye admitted lifting details of a colleague’s bank card and going on a £1,100 online shopping spree.
Evelyn Dey, of 10 Ullinish, Struan- who worked for 14 years at Dunvegan Primary but has since been suspended- pleaded guilty to the fraud between November and December last year.
Yesterday she was sentenced to 180 hours of unpaid work at Portree Sheriff Court.
Fiscal David Morton said the cash value of the goods had been handed into the court by Miss Dey.
The victim, a Catriona Allan, was recompensed by her bank.
Defence lawyer Hamish Melrose said: “My client has repaid the money. She is a first offender but appreciates it was a severe breach of trust.
“She is waiting to hear if she will get her job back. It is in the balance. She is full of shame and remorse. It was out of character.”
Sheriff Eric Brown said: “This was not a moment of madness. There were 63 purchases over a period of about two weeks.”
