The body of a young hotel worker who died after being hit by a car on the isle of Skye is being repatriated to Australia this week.

Madison Rice, 21, from Queensland, worked at the Kinloch Hotel on Skye. Her funeral will take place on Friday after her body is taken home on Wednesday.

Miss Rice had been enjoying a day off work with her boyfriend Joe Perry, when the tragedy happened earlier this month in the early hours near the Sligachan Hotel.

The couple were believed to be returning home to the luxury Kinloch Lodge hotel in Sleat, where they had been living and working.

Donations have been flooding in online to pay for the repatriation, after it emerged she had no travel insurance.

More than £17,000 was raised by an online appeal.

Her stepfather Alix Welsh wrote on the Youcaring website: “This is something I never thought I would be writing about kids are supposed to live long after you have departed this world.

“Although I’m ‘only a step dad’, Maddy made a huge impact to my life very quickly. As has her twin brother Harlan.

“The date and time has been set to celebrate the life of our beautiful daughter, Maddy.

“We encourage all who’d like to attend to wear bright colours and come to celebrate her extraordinary life. Share stories of her ‘Maddy Moments’ and ‘Maddy’isms’ with family and friends.

“We thank you for your continued support during this tough time.

“Kerry, Harlan and myself will be forever grateful to you all for helping us get our Madison home. We continue to be blown away by the love and support. Thank you just doesn’t sound enough.”

In a statement issued on behalf of her family they said Miss Rice had been living her dream after travelling to Europe and working in London then Scotland.
