Early dawn at the Quiraing, Isle of Skye, Scotland.

A new book which focuses on the stunning nature and topography of Skye is being launched tonight.

Skye – A Photographic Communion by Allan Wright is being unveiled at an official event at the Aros Centre in the island’s capital, Portree from 6.30-7.30pm.

Mr Wright, a landscape photographer, will give the audience a short presentation about the inspiration behind the pictures and local MP, Ian Blackford, will also attend the launch.

Sometimes referred to as Scotland’s most distinguished photonovelist as he combines pictures with narrative to capture a sense of geography and place, Mr Wright spent weeks exploring some of Skye’s most remote and stunning locations.

He lived frugally and slept in a small tent in order to capture landscapes on camera at all times of the day and night.

The book contains more than 100 images from majestic landscapes of Trotternish and The Cuillins, to the magical Fairy Pools and the endless captivating shorelines.

It also includes narrative about each of the main regions of the island and highlights famous landmarks.

Mr Wright said: “Skye is renowned across the world for having some of Scotland’s finest landscapes. I’ve always been drawn to its magical scenery and in 2014 I made the decision to invest a lot more time there, exploring the island and paying it the attention it deserves.

“The book encompasses the more subtle aspects of a working landscape and the individuality of its different parts.

“Photographing Skye was inspiring, fun and a fantastic artistic journey. I hope that visitors, businesses and even locals will enjoy the images captured in this book for many years to come.”

Mr Blackford, MP for Ross, Skye and Lochaber added: “As an inhabitant of the island I regularly see many of the landscapes featured in the book, which I will now look at with fresh eyes. We are so lucky to live and work in such a beautiful area and able to experience daily the sights and scenes which have been captured in this book.”
