Ninth call in 11 days for lifeboat

A call to a grounded yacht was Oban Lifeboat’s ninth call-out in 11 days.

The crew was alerted to the incident at isle of Luing, just after 6pm last night.

The Mjollnir had two people on board when it ran aground at Ardinamair.

The lifeboat kept watch on the 34ft yacht until it refloated at around 11pm.

A spokeswoman for Stornoway Coastguard said that the people on board were unhurt and the vessel undamaged.

She added that the Oban crew was “always very busy”.

Since July 27, the crew has been called out nine times, including three times on Tuesday.

On the same day, volunteers paid a moving tribute to one of their greatest supporters.

The funeral of Marie-Claire Williamson-MacDougall took place at St Columba’s Cathedral in Oban at 10am but the lifeboat was called out at 5.44am to help a yacht which ran aground in Loch Craignish.

However, the lifeboat returned from the call-out at 11.30am, and stood off-shore in Oban Bay as the cortege left the church.

On Saturday, the crew was called out to search the shoreline at Oban Bay at 2am after reports of a pile of clothes on the beach.

The lifeboat was stood down at 3.30am after the man, who owned the clothes was found, safe but intoxicated.
