A man from Lerwick who shouted and swore at his partner before becoming aggressive towards police officers has been fined and given unpaid work to complete.
Mark Odie, of St Sunniva Street, previously admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and acting aggressively at an address in Lerwick’s Sandveien on February 28.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie told Lerwick Sheriff Court yesterday that the 44-year-old had been drinking and returned home before arguing with his partner.
When she tried get away Odie followed her around the house, before their son entered the home.
The boy and the woman went into the couple’s bedroom before later coming downstairs, with Odie continuing his behaviour.
The woman ultimately phoned 999 and Odie shouted and swore at officers when they arrived.
Defence agent Tommy Allan, who described the couple’s relationship as “particularly volatile”, said his client spent the night in custody after the incident to “calm down”.
He added that the complainer had been helping to care for Odie’s poorly father and is still doing so.
Sheriff Philip Mann said Odie did not have a good record and was running the risk of landing another jail sentence.
While the behaviour was “reprehensible”, he didn’t feel custody was necessary and gave Odie 180 hours of unpaid work to complete and fined him £400.
