Musicians from an array of genres and hailing from more than ten countries will flock to Shetland this summer as the 39th instalment of the Shetland Folk Festival opens on May 2.

New and upcoming acts will join forces with tried and tested legends of the festival from years gone by in a three-day celebration.

Canadian multi-instrumentalist JP Cormier will be joined at the festival by Radio 2 Folk Award winner Tim Edey, who has wowed the Shetland crowd before.

Festival head of programming Mhari McLeman said: “Every year, we try and bring an eclectic and diverse range of styles and musicians up here and we hope festival goers like what they hear.

“While we pride ourselves on breaking brand new bands to Shetland audiences, it’s also lovely to see returning faces and we also can’t wait to show off our local talent alongside these celebrated international acts.

“We are grateful to all our volunteers, sponsors and committee members who continue to work together to make the event what it is.”

The annual festival is organised solely by a dedicated band of volunteers.

Early festival membership will go on sale from February 1 for one month, with early-bird purchasers allowed the opportunity to purchase tickets from Monday March 18.

The general release date for ticket sales for those without the early access is April 1.
