Andrew Lorne MacDougall was remanded at Lochmaddy Sheriff Court two weeks ago. He had previously pled guilty to making a nuisance call to an alcohol misuse worker and appeared at the court on 20th June. In a bid to keep him out of jail, his lawyer asked he be assessed for an alcohol misuse treatment programme. Sentence was deferred and Mr MacDougall was due to return to the court in North Uist later this month. The 49-year-old – known locally as Dougie – hailed from Benbecula but was living in Lochboisdale in South Uist. A spokesman for the Scottish Prison Service said: “Police Scotland have been advised and the matter will be reported to the procurator fiscal. “Next of kin have been informed and a fatal accident inquiry may be held in due course.”
