One of Scotland’s busiest island airports will soon have a cafe once more, after going months without.
Passengers going through Stornoway Airport have been unable to grab a snack or a drink since March.
But now Highlands and Islands Airport Limited (HIAL) has confirmed a new operator has been found, and that they will start next month.
Western Isles MSP Alasdair Allan welcomed the news, but questioned why it had taken so long to find a new catering operator.
“These have been closed for over three months now.

“HIAL have told me that it has been challenging trying to attract a suitable candidate to operate the catering facility, but that they have now secured a suitable vendor.
“They hope to be up and running again by mid-August if not before.
“I can appreciate the difficulties involved, and welcome the progress now made, but it is disappointing that we have gone virtually a whole tourist season now in this regrettable situation.”
A notice on the airport’s website said: “Please accept our apologies that we do not currently have a cafe service onsite and will be offering a limited range of refreshments. We are working to get the cafe re-opened as soon as possible and apologise for any inconvenience.
Last night, a spokesman for HIAL confirmed it had found a suitable caterer for the airport and it hoped that it would be up and running within the next month.
