A Western Isles social worker will face accusations of sending a series of sexually explicit text messages to a female client at a disciplinary hearing.

Iain MacAskill, of Lewis, will appear before the Scottish Social Services Council to face a number of charges, including arranging to buy controlled drugs from a separate service user.

He will appear before the industry watchdog on Monday, March 16, with his hearing set to take three days.

Mr MacAskill is accused of committing a series of breaches of industry practice between February 2010 and September 2012 while employed as a social worker with Western Isles Council.

It is alleged that between February and March 2010 he flirted and touched the arm of a female service user to whom he was allocated.

He is accused of advising that he and the client could have a personal relationship if he was no longer allocated to her case, discussing personal circumstances with her and advising that he had had sex with clients in the past.

He is also accused of disclosing his personal mobile phone number and threatening to remove the service user’s child from her care if she told anyone about his relationship with her.

It is alleged that on August 17, 2010 he sent 47 text messages from a work phone to the service user without legitimate reason.

He will also face a charge of sending a number of explicit texts to her between March 11 and August 17, 2010.

He is further accused of sending approximately 59 text messages containing sexually explicit content to a separate unidentified person between July 19, 2012 and September 2 the same year using his work phone.

In addition, he faces charges of discussing use of controlled drugs by text and phone call on his work mobile between April 12, 2012 and September 1, 2012.

He faces a final charge of using his work mobile phone between May 21, 2011 and May 29, 2012 to arrange to by drugs from a former service user.
