An aspiring Moray DJ has been jailed for a year after police caught him with almost 7,000 indecent images of children.
Cameron Fordyce played music for patients at Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin as part of a community project and provided entertainment at several events on the region’s social calendar.
An online portfolio of his work boasts that he presented outside broadcasts from a “families day” at the Kinloss Army Barracks and a Christmas celebration at Brodie Countryfare.
Fordyce was jailed at Glasgow Sheriff Court after being found guilty of taking, or permitting the taking of, indecent images of children.
The 21-year-old, of Rose Avenue, Elgin, downloaded the offensive material between October 14, 2010, and January 10 this year.
He acquired some of the images while studying a course in creative industries and radio at the City Of Glasgow College and staying in student accommodation.
The court heard Fordyce mainly used the internet to download music, but had moved on to watching adult porn.
Fordyce claimed that he “accidentally” clicked on a link containing child pornography, and then continued to revisit the illegal websites.
Sheriff Paul Crozier dismissed suggestions Fordyce had acted “naively”.
He said he had downloaded the material “for his gratification”.
The sheriff jailed Fordyce for a year, and he will remain under supervision for two years after his release.
He was also placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.
Fordyce attended Elgin Academy from 2007 to 2013, and worked with a local electrician during some of his summer breaks.
He hosted afternoon music shows, a charts rundown and Friday night slots at Dr Gray’s, and also studied radio and television at North East Scotland College in Aberdeen.
His online CV also cites work with a north-east wedding band from June 2014 until September last year, where he played DJ sets while the group was taking a break from the stage.
On his internet profile, Fordyce says he is “working hard to get his big break in radio”.
