One of Moray’s most famous firms is challenging residents to weave together a string of clues as part of a project designed to highlight its past.
The Johnstons of Elgin cashmere plant was founded in 1797, and ahead of celebrating its 220th anniversary next year, bosses are eager to familiarise people with its history.
Next weekend, keen quizzers will be tasked with answering a series of questions which will guide them through the heart of Elgin and over to the storied wool mill.
On Saturday, October 8, residents will be able to collect quiz sheets from Johnstons or the Gordon and MacPhail shop on South Street from 10am.
Johnstons director, Jenny Houldsworth, said: “Every answer will lead participants to the next place.
“We have tried to link the trail with Elgin’s fashion heritage and its family firms where possible, to reflect those aspects of Johnstons.
“It’s about highlighting our history, and the place the business has in Moray.”
It is estimated that the quiz will take less than an hour, and completed forms must be returned by 4pm to either Johnstons or Gordon and MacPhail that day.
Every correct submission will be entered into a draw, and the winning entry will receive a Johnstons of Elgin voucher.
The event is being held in conjunction with the Castle to Cathedral to Cashmere scheme, a project which aims to boost Elgin’s visitor numbers by creating a tourist trail through the town.
Johnstons of Elgin employs 730 staff at its Elgin base, and more than 100 at a venue in Hawick.
Last year, it expanded by opening a new store on Bond Street in London.
